3:45pm - 4:30pm: What is a Book, Anyway?
The surging popularity of ebooks and ereaders is very confusing to publishers and to libraries. The highly evolved supply chains that support the distribution and sale of print books are being disrupted, displaced, and distorted. Libraries that have been built as secular temples for print are wondering what roles they can play in the future. Publishers are being told that they can no longer just sell objects, that ebooks are really website apps, and that contextualization is the key to maximize income streams. So what is a book, really? In this talk, Eric Hellman will argue that books can still make sense in a paperless world, and discuss the technologies and the business models that enable them.
Eric Hellman, President, GlueJar
