WELCOME TO THE ASIDIC ARCHIVE
ASIDIC, an NFAIS sister organization, was founded in 1968. In
April 2010, the ASIDIC Board of Directors announced that after
forty-two years of service to the Information Community it was time
to recommend the dissolution of ASIDIC as an organization. However,
in order to ensure that the ASIDIC mission and spirit be preserved,
and that the existing membership and remaining assets were placed
with a like-minded organization that is committed to serving the
needs of a diverse Information Community, the ASIDIC Board
solicited expressions of interest regarding a potential merger.
Ultimately, the ASIDIC Board recommended NFAIS as the new "home"
for its membership and in June 2010, the ASIDIC members voted and
accepted the Board's recommendation.
Being involved in the dissolution of an organization as well respected as ASIDIC was a bittersweet experience for the NFAIS Board and staff. With joy, we welcomed our new members into the NFAIS Community. Yet with sadness we said farewell to a respected sister organization who had an illustrious and successful past. It admirably fulfilled its mission for more than forty years and served its members well.
We are honored that the ASIDIC Board believed that NFAIS offers ASIDIC members the best possible opportunity for continuing the spirit and tradition that ASIDIC has provided. NFAIS is committed to fulfill the faith and trust that the ASIDIC Board and member organizations have placed in us as we strive to fulfill our objective of serving the global information community and fostering communication and collaboration among all of its participants.
