Today Google introduced a new element to their Google Toolbar, Google Sidewiki. It's a very simple and easy-to-use annotation tool for knowledge workers who use and refer to Web-based resources. It's got a social element to it in that annotations may be shared with others who visit that page. According to the Google marketing page, such annotations may be useful for doctors who wish to guide patients to high-quality medical sites as well as for journalists who may wish to share background information with readers of their work.
What I found most interesting to note, however, was how Google's toolbar modified the experience in Internet Explorer and Firefox. Suddenly, it seemed as if I, the user, were working in Google's Chrome browser. Thumbnails of my most recently visited pages in IE were offered up just as they are in the Chrome browser. Just as with yesterday's introduction of the Chrome Frame, the point is to accommodate the user to the Chrome working environment without forcing the user to change from their favored Web browser tool. Marketing is ubiquitous!
